The newest arrival on Lake Calhoun is ... magic ...

  • a PEARSON RESOLUTE

  • We always forget
    what is down there underwater
    that makes it all work.

    This is a boat
    designed to sail
    with grace and beauty.

20' open cockpit, long-keeled masthead sloop made in Maine back in the 1980's. This boat will soon be rigged and ready to sail ... ... ... You will see the broad red boot stripe and cream colored deck and keel. On the water she is low-set with graceful curves everywhere.

A little bit about this boat......This is a classic boat, primarily found in big waters, like the Chesapeake Bay or along coastal areas. She's designed to easily handle big wind waves or water. One of the friendliest and sweetest boats you will ever have the pleasure of sailing. The boat was designed for Pearson by Bill Tritt in 1964. She's 20' long, with a 6.5' beam and a draft of 3.45'. She displaces 1800# and carries over 200 sq. ft of sail.

Forgiving of wind gusts or sailing errors and not tender at all, but also fast and true. She's got plenty of sail area, but can be reefed down if the wind pipes up. Look at that tall mast! The jib is a self-tacking rig which makes for great comfort when sailing single-handedly or when going out for relaxing cruising.

Resolutes have a long open cockpit that could easily seat 6-8 crew, and the cuddy is huge. The comfortable cockpit has teak benches and low coamings for easy hiking. Her sail package includes a reefable main, a storm jib, full jib, self-tacking jib, genoa, and spinnaker.

Since she is full-keeled with enormous weight down there, it's theoretically possible to swamp her but it would have to be either a great storm or intentional.

    Sail Fast

I love  BOAT RESCUE stories, people rescues too, but this is about a boat. The boat is the PEARSON PACKET 18, a sweet little cousin of the PEARSON RESOLUTE 20. Both were first manufactured in 1963, and they think that CARL ALBERG designed the Packet but the original information has been LOST!  We do know that famous designer BILL TRITT designed the little Resolute.

This was a backyard find that was in bad shape, as you can seel.  Look at the first two photos, as found, then the picture of her, fully restored and made beautiful for sailing!  I found only one PEARSON RESOLUTE website and, to their knowledge, they could only find 4 of the little beauties still sailing!  The site owner has hull #35 (we are hull #79, a later model).   I'm exploring more information. I can't figure out why some clever person doesn't make NEW PACKETS & RESOLUTES! Nothing new sails like this!   Enjoy

Oh my!  A true treasure! The original color and everything! Can you imagine!?

I am a beginner sailor and was delighted to go sailing with Werner and Shannon two weekends ago. I actually learned a lot from just a 15 minute ride. Thanks for doing this!
